For those of you who have a central air-conditioning, or those of you considering getting central air, please take a look at this. As the summer months draw nearer, we will talk about this more completely. While it is important for this to be mentioned, for now, let's focus on fighting the problem at hand: the cold.
By now, most homeowners, who have gas or oil heating, should have had their yearly cleaning completed. If you haven't, it's not too late! Contact Go Green Express Home Services to schedule an appointment to have your furnace cleaned.
Here are some tips that you can do—on your own—to be more comfortable during the frigid months and save money at the same time:
- If you setback your thermostat back a modest five degrees before you sleep at night and, in the morning, turn it back up to your desired temperature during the day, you could ultimately save up to five percent on your heating bill. –You could save even more with a programmable thermostate. Read more about this here.
- Another good way to save money is to turn down the temperature on your water heater. Most water heaters are factory-set at 135 degrees Fahrenheit, but the recommended setting for maximum efficiency is only 115-125 degrees Fahrenheit.
If, for some reason, you have a problem with your heat, here are a few simple steps that may remedy the problem:
- Check to make sure that you have enough fuel or propane or gas.
- Make sure that none of the emergency shut-off switches were not triggered accidentally.
- For propane and natural gas equipment, make sure the pilot light is lit. (If the equipment has a pilot; many systems now are pilotless for energy conservation and convienence)
- Hit the "Reset" button on the system–only once. If none these steps seem to remedy your heating issue, please feel free to call Go Green Express Home Services. And if you have any questions about any of the information in this post–or any other plumbing, heating, electric or air conditioning questions–please feel free to call.
